Wanted!!

Kind hearted people willing to review my Ross essays and provide feedback and review again and.....

Last date for applicants is 1st Jan Deadline for Ross essays is 3rd Jan.

In return i will send out positive vibes into the Universe for you to absorb and get into the b-school of your choice. Or for whatever it is you want to do :)

Wow!!

When I made my last post, honestly I was looking for Paige to post since I knew that she was my ONLY reader :D So you can imagine my surprise when i got a veritable flood of comments urging me to submit by R2( ok so i know 4 is not that many, but given i was only looking for 1 response, AND prior to her there was nobody, this constitutes a flood! :-p And if you dont agree, leave me a comment :D )

Which has nw got me wondering how many people are actually reading my blog and from where are there finding it! So

a.)CLustrMaps is now installed.
b.) Google analytics shall follow shortly :D

Happy New Year to all :D

R2->R3?

That is the question currently plaguing me. Do I meet the R2 deadline for Ross and submit on Jan 3rd or do i go to R3?
As an Indian applicant(perhaps even otherwise) the wisest thing for me would have been to get in my application by the R2 deadline. On the other hand, shouldnt you always get in your best application irrespective of the round it goes in? Then again, R3 is "supposedly" only for the really strong candidates.

To the one person who reads this blog, what do you say??

Time to start Panicking?

Oh most definitely me thinks so!! Somehow for whatever shitty reason i still havent started taking this as seriously as i should. Is it because as Paige so sweetly puts it i'm "practicing the fine art of procrastination" or is it because i'm so goddmaned freaking laid-back in life? I still dont feel that sense of urgency, that zing thing to churn out some interview-gettin essays. I still dont seem to realise the enormity/urgency that i desperately need to get an MBA NOW! rather than a year later.

I'm pissed off at myself and i'm too laid back to do anything about it.

Wtf is wrong with me???

p.s. the thing that started this off is this

Long Live HTTrack Website Copier

Given my unique, if rather unfortunate position, where I'm stuck without an internet connection, I needed something to be able to view the Ross website offline

HTTrack Website Copier

So now I have the entire Ross Website on my laptopn :D

Its quite big i must say. Combined with the ZLI website its 150Mb+.

That's a lot of reading to do!!

What a Waste!!

Yesterday was a total washout. I was only supposed to buy a pair of formal shoes and get back home before i left for an evening get together. However, them not having the shoes meant going hunting till i finally just bought a pair. Did i mention i hate shopping? :D

So then I had to go out to meet people who were various reasons got delayed. I finally got tired of waiting and left. Reached home at 6:30 and was too tired to do anything after that :-|

So Sunday's work = 0

Revamp!

I'm doing 2 of my Boston University essays all over again. Of course, this means that i'm missing the Dec19th deadline which in turn means i'm delaying knowing my admission status by a whole month. Dont know how good a thing that is. I'm hearing of students getting admitted with a full schol and i'm fearful that i wont get the full schol simply because i'm applying late. That would suck.

On the flip side, i think i can present a better story with the new essays so i guess i have to be willing to take the risk. What sucks though is the amount of time i spent on one essay and now know that i wont be using that essay anywhere.

Ross Essay 3

So, much like Chicago's Essay 3(what is it with me and 3rd essays of colleges?) I believelike to thinki've got this one pat down. Unlike C3 which ALL my reviewers unanimously said Redo this one is totally credible and believable and more importantly i seriously intend to pursue once i'm done with all my apping. Given that I have the numbers and experience to back it all up, this makes for one heck of an essay. Should be done with it by the end of day and off it goes to Susie :)

Running out of time

All my deadlines are in Jan and I havent made a single submission till date. Dont even have net access at home but that's not even an excuse. I have my laptop but i havent really seriously sat down and worked on my essays. I keep telling myself that i'll do it on a weekend but honestly you cant write all your essays over 2days. I mean yeah you can but its not the same thing is it? you have to think type edit type cut re-format etc etc :D

I'm starting to feel pressured but not enough to kick my butt into high gear and get working. And that's bad because even my recommenders have not submitted the one college i asked them too.

Today is also the World MBA tour and i'm going so badly prepared for it its not funny. Might do a little reading in the evening though.

Am I relying a little too much on luck??

Writing Essays...

can either be a real pain in the butt or a totally self-revealing experience. Depends on which side of the bed you got out of. So far, i've gotten out of the wrong side of the bed :-(

None of my essays are complete, B.U's deadline is fast approaching and I have 4essays to write for them. Ok, so its not like i'm totally incompetent and havent done ANY work, its just that i havent done as much work as i should have done. I would still like to pursue an MBA its just that i seem to find starting up another company infinitely more exciting. However that cannot be done till I go through the entire process of Application so some more waiting :-( Again, I need an MBA becausethough i have all these crazy/zany ideas of start-ups "I have learned that effective decisions on starting up a new company, risks involved, returns, short term and long term goals, profitability, require a deep business analysis and strategic thinking that hands-on experience alone takes too long to give."
"I want to go to B-school so that I never have to see a dream of mine compromised. I want to go to a B-school to learn how to avoid making mistakes that most start-ups make. To learn to evaluate and take calculated risks. To meet people who will help me make a difference. To grow a business globally. To remain my own boss "

LOL! shameless hack of my Why MBA essay.

You like?? :-)

U. To(o) ??

Today I got this mail from University of Toronto

Thank you for starting your University of Toronto, Rotman School of Management MBA application. Members of the Rotman Recruitment and Admissions team will be visiting India between November 29th and December 5th to attend the World MBA Tour and conduct admissions interviews. Due to the volume of applications that we get from India, we are only able to schedule interviews with individuals who have submitted their application.
If you submit your application by November 15th we will book an interview with you in Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore or Mumbai. Note however, that your supporting documents (i.e., GMAT scores, transcripts and references) can be sent after November 15th.
I am also pleased to announce that we have a 50% tuition scholarship for the top Indian student and I'll be happy to discuss your candidacy for this scholarship in the interview.
What the..? How come I get to know so late about this? If I had known earlier I would have put you'll on the Top. Oh did i mention that U of T is also hiking its app fees by $25 for R2? So that leaves me with approximately 20days to write the essays, get them polished and have my recommnders submit their stuff.

Am wondering whether its worth it to rush it?

Boston University

Just got this in the mail from them

Dear Ryan,

Congratulations! Through the Graduate Management Admission Search Service (GMASS), you have been identified as a preferred candidate for Boston University’s management programs.

International Diversity is an integral component of the Boston University educational experience, so we are actively looking for students from India to join our Full-time MBA programs. Last year, more than 75% of students with a similar GMAT score were admitted and received a Dean's Prize Scholarship – now valued up to $35,000 per year.
They were anyway on my app list this only makes it sweeter :-)

Essays!

Its been so hard writing essays :-(

I had one essay torn apart by 3 different reviewers. All of them were unanimous in their verdict "Redo" :'(

Whole lot of shit happening at work and at home and it hasnt been easy focussing on anything. Have been tired and frustrated.

Colleges

Research!

Research!

Research some more!! Research your colleges!! I'm not applying to two colleges that I sent my scores to. For the simple reason that its way toooo expensive, I dont fancy my chances at getting aid and honestly I didnt do any(meaning a lot. i did a little but not enough) background work on them!

So that's an additional $50 to send scores elsewhere. What a waste!!

Books for Sale!

All those books I studied from and scored a 710 are now up for grabs. Well, they were up for grabs lnog before I just never got around to posting it :-D

Anyway books being offered are

OG11
Manhattan Cr/RC Guide with 6tests (i've registered this one but you still get 6tests and about 11months of access)
The complete 4GMAT set (1600 value that I didnt touch )its only Quant btw.
Kaplan 800 (2005-06)
Kaplan Higher Score (2003)
PR (2005)
Plus a lot of printed material, and i'll burn you a CD with a lot of stuff+tests too.

Make me a good offer people :-)

It's a 6!!

Yeah the Official Score came yesterday and i was a little stunned to see a 6 considering I only studied for it the evening before the test, and didnt practice a single essay :-D

All's well that ends Well :-)

Sunday, September 30, 2007

710 it is.

Just back from the center.

Q48 V40

I guess i'm relieved i didnt score below 700 though i would certainly have liked to score higher. However i wont be re-taking. Dont see the point. IF i do re-take it'll only be because some school said it wanted to see a higher GMAT score. Seems unlikely so we'll see how it goes.

Be safe :-)

710 and 710

Scores on GMATPrep

On the first Q was 50 and V was 36 (IIRC)
On the second Q was 46 and V was 42

I like to think I'm going to get Q50 and V42 tomorrow :-) giving me that lovely 750.

Over the past coupla days, or atleast since yesterday, i've been tensed/nervous/off-colour/... whatever you want to call it. Havent been able to focus on the test also. In a way, I guess this bodes well for me, if i'm unable to focus and still doing well (come on 710 is pretty good ok and i have a history of doing better on exam day than on mock days) i should score reasonably well :-)

Fingers crossed :-D

750 :-D

As a moral booster I decided to take PowerPrep 2 because that was the test left. Nice score no? :-D

Q 50 V 41

On D-Day, this is all i need :-D

Ok, so a few of the questions were repeated as in i'd seen them on the OG so cant really get too excited. then again, i got those questions right when i did the OG so.....

Gotta stop over-analysing everything so much :-D

Time to go eat some yummy dal-rice and chicken :-)

660 Again!!

Damn man!! Yesterday i took MGMAT CAT2 and scored the same damn score again! Arent i supposed to be getting a bell curve sometime soon so that i know what i'll be scoring on a good day and a bad day?

My Q went up to 49, had enough time to finish the test. My V went down though 32.

Hmm.....

Tuesday, September 25, 2007

660 :-|

On the ManhattanGMAT CAT. Q45 V35 Dont know what to make of this score. I know the Quant section is supposed to be tough but verbal? And 660? This is my second 660! Cant believe after so much prep i'm still scoring the same. Has nothing changed?

:-(

Quick Update!!

Am now in the final stretch of my GMAT prep. The exam is 6days away. A weeks leave beginning yesterday. Mocks everyday, hard core practice and plenty of studying :-D Yoga to calm my mind and Me(thanks Mom you're the best!). Do I need anything else?

Wish me luck! :-D

p.s. Got a fab idea for the 4th essay for Chi GSB! Excited about it!

Sept 30, 9:00 AM

Yup that's the date i postponed. Too much dilly-dallying cost me a 4th Oct ,1:30pm date but no sweat. I'm determined to be done with it this time around come what may.

Of course, improving my study hours a bit would certainly help :-D

Big thanks to MBAPODCASTER for his/her words of advice. Much appreciated :-)

Postpone?

Didnt get any work done. What I did do all day was ponder over post-poning the GMAT. I've spoken to Vicky who says that if I'm not ready i should postpone. Its either take the next 2weeks off and take the exam as scheduled or postpone by a further 2weeks. I'm all in favour of postponing because there's a part of me that says there's a lot to study and 2weeks more will really help. Yet there's another part that says that i neednt postpone coz i dont really need to study all that i say i need to and i'll be fine if i just focus on finishin the important stuff.

I need to make a decision soon.

All those of you out there who read this blog, lemme know :-(

Verbal_Karen_03

This was another great class on Sentence Correction. Three hours long so took some time getting through but well worth it.

Pronoun errors. Got a lot of notes to study. And i only realised the other day that the one time i was studying SC at the Ampt center i ended up leaving my other notes there. So now to do the home exercise i gotta refer the pdfs on the laptop.

Bit of a pain i say.

CR

I didnt do any CR till i finished the GMAX course.

32/41

Thankfully there were no careless errors. Dont know how to interpret this one. On the one hand, there were no careless errors on the other getting 9wrong is worrying no? Or should i be optimistic and think that it was only my first time and i'm bound to get better. Considering i have only about 16days to go, i'd better be improving real fast!!

DS (Numbers and Algebra)

Done two of them so far. Numbers and Algebra.

First Score 32/40

Second Score 31/40 (greater mix of Algebra)

which means about 80% accuracy, which is ok considering there were atleast a coupla careless errors in each set.

The bigger challenge is remembering the AD/BCE trick. Hanging in there

Too many days like today

where i've gotten absolutely no work done. If I have a morning class, then bang goes my morning study. I've never gotten any work done in the evening and today was no different. Didnt get any work done. Plan on doing CR tomorrow morning as well as finishing CR from the GMAX course. That should bring a real sense of satisfaction that I've completed something atleast :-)

Gotta work harder :-(

Saturday, August 25, 2007

Some more Numbers PS

36/40

That's a slight improvement over the last time but i dont know if i should be happy. i really should be getting 38/39 instead of 36. I mean, i've made some real stupid questions which is sad because once again i could have gotten a 39. Getting a 36 is good but i really need to score like really well in the Q section if i want to get a decent GMAT score.

Just done copying the CR questions for tomorrow. I have an early morning class so there's no way i can attend a session on the GMAX. guess i'm better off solving 40Qs since i'll for sure be using up all my alloted 80mins. Am a li'l worried i'll run short of time but hopefully that wont happen :-(

B +

Yeah that's my blood group :D

Verbal_Abi_03

  1. Types of Argument
  2. What you should be doing (for e.g. Causal Argument show an alternative cause)
  3. Strengthening and Weakening an argument
  4. Inference

All this in a mere 80mins. Of course, that's the length of the video, but writing the stuff, repeating it in your mind and answering the questions takes longer than that.

I'm really enjoying these classes. I've actually started to think that CR isnt so bad and is pretty easy. Perhaps I should volunteer to take some CR classes for the LST batch before i make up my mind :D

On the homework part, I've decided to copy the question numbers in my spare time i.e. after dinner. I usally end up watching tv at that point but that time could be spent more usefully. When i want to solve a set of Qs, i refer the GMAX split, copy the question numbers to my answer grid and sit down to solve them. All this one after the other. Which of course allows me to do a time pass for a cool 10mins. Abandoning this practice should hopefully help me spend my time more productively.

Verbal_Abi_02

Critical Reasoning

  1. Intro to C.R.
  2. Fact, Premise and Conclusion
  3. Identifying which is which
In continuation with my policy of doing Verbal in the morning so that I can as usual skip through Q in the evening, i skipped the RC class and moved directly to C.R. (Lots of "skip" na in that line :D ) A really really good class. Well planned and explained, right pace so i didnt feel lost and examples to drive home the point. The class was fun and interesting.

I never seem to do the assigned homework though :D

Math_Aner_05

Algebra-1

Any of you remember the taj Mahal tea-bag ad??

Dip dip dip
Add a bit of sugar
and its ready to sip....

With due apologies

Zip zip zip
Add a bit of OG
and i'm ready to Rip :-D

yup, yet another class that i zipped through. Am beginning to think that while this course is fantastic for beginners, people like me who are at a slightly advanced(Ahem!) level are probably getting bored. So far I always used to take the Math class in the morning when the entire house is asleep and i'm the only one awake. I love studying in the quiet that envelops the world. Helps me focus and concentrate. LOL!! Given my powers of concentration( mom wont stop ragging me about how a small fly passin through is enough to distract me) it makes sense no?

But now i'm beginning to think that maybe i should swap Math for English. I end up spending the morning zipping through the class but that still consumes time. I havent done much on the English course but i really think i should especially after bombing so badly on the ONLY gmat test i took. And i probably should start taking a whole lot more of them.

So that's settled then. English in the morning and Math in the evening. Even if i zip through, i wont be missing much. And hopefully, i'll be covering a whole lot more work :-)

Math_Aner_04

Another lesson that in most parts i simply zipped through. Number systems is now done. I believe people who've not had much math are most likely to benefit from these 4lessons. For people who have taken Maths, this part's going to be a little boring.

I havent done any yesterday so have to really make up for it today. Am hoping to attend a coupla verbal classes since i'm really falling behind on those.

Happy Studying folks.

OG 11 Numbers

One of the advantages that the GMAX course has that it has neatly sorted out all the problems in the OG according to the subject. So rather than sitting and attacking the first 40Questions, I just marked off those that were from Numbers and solved those. While the intention was to try and finish them in under 80mins, I finished them in under an hour. No am no genius just that the questions were really easy. Wait till I hit Algebra or Geometry, 80mins is NOT going to be sufficient :-D

All right, before you think anything about how amazing i am at maths, know that I got 7 Qs wrong giving me an appros hit rate of 80% (82.5% to be precise). Out of the 7, there was only 1Q i didnt know (Q215 which is a Median Q). The rest were sheer carelessness. I mean, had I spent more than the 45seconds i did, I would have surely gotten them right. I keep lecturing a student of mine not to be careless but God help me if she ever found out i was so careless myself.

I was annoyed at the end of it. 39Correct was there for the taking!

Another thing that I did was use the GMATScratchpad i got. The annoying thing with this is that the ink will every once in a while rub onto your hand, you can't chew the pen ( i mean i'll chew mine but at the Center? Ugh NO!) and the ink dries up pretty fast if you keep it uncapped for long. Something to get used to i suppose.

Verbal_karen_02

Sentence Correction mein SubjectVerb Agreement. A 1.5hr lesson that i took 3hrs to finish. While I'm sure the class was good( i know i picked up a coupla points) actually it was a pretty good class but i was also distracted for a variety of reasons( i had just finished lunch, was drowsy as I had also woken up early in the morning). Plus, once you turn off your system, you can't play back the file. You have to log into GMAX which means another view down. I've already wasted 3views and I wasn't going to waste another one on Verbal.

Let's see might come back to it sometime.

Math_Aner_03

Ok, so this lesson i simply zipped through. A 2hr session i finished in about 45mins.

What more can I say??

:-D

Math_Aner_02

Another interesting session. I already know this stuff but for beginners, what's being discussed would be heaven sent for them :-D Every concept is explained in detail with examples plus you can stop the lesson and solve the question on your own before listening to the solution so those really interested in improving have a great opportunity to do it.

Verbal_karen_01

Not as impressed with the Verbal lesson as I was with the Math. I got a little bored. Then again, i'm reasonably good at the basics of verbal so all of this was a repeat for me. At the end of the lesson, I was asked to do an assignment from the material they had told me to download at the beginning of the course. That was fine. I was expecting them to do that. I was however surprised that nothing like this mentioned at the end of the Math class so i just assumed that since it was just the first class there would be no assignment.

WRONG!!

When i was taking out the verbal assignment i checked if there was anything for the math. Sure enough its there :-| which means yesterday when i didnt get any work done, I actually could have gotten some work done. And just yesterday a little panic started to creep in as my GMAT date approaches.

Lesson of the Day: Be more prepared!

Friday, August 10, 2007

Math_Aner_01

Took the first lesson from GMAXONLINE today and must say am totally impressed. I teach Quant myself and i really liked the way they structured their first class-- Intro to Number Systems. Complete and thorough. Nicely paced, with examples and solving questions from the OG.I know a couple of students who are really weak in maths and I think they would really benefit from this lesson. At first I thought it'd be really boring for me but I decided to stick it through and i'm glad i did. It was an interesting class :)

So far so good. Tomorrow have an early morning class so no chance to take English 1. Will probably come back from there and take it.

Tuesday, August 7, 2007

Check before you Plan

I have access to the GMAX course so i'll be using that( and reviewing it here after each class) but the thing is that the course is online. Or so i thought. I know they have a CD version but by the time they ship it to me, i wont have enough time left. Today's an off so i thought i would start off on the GMAX course. I actually got up a little earlier thinking that I would start the download process before going to brush my teeth and drink my coffee. That would give me 30mins of download time and the download would continue while i started class. Only when i logged into GMAX did i realise that i can even download the videos :-( . It never occurred to me to check whether i could download the videos.

So here I am, downloading all the videos not having started my prep. I had hoped to start with CR because i'm good with Q and i'll be (finally) picking up the SCG today. Instead i'm writing blog posts and updating my laptop :D

Time to go brush, drink my coffee and find something else to study.

Ebook success!

After days of unsuccessfully trying to get my e-book to work i've finally managed a temporary solution. I couldnt get the ebook to read books off the SmartMedia card so i finally had to transfer it to the in-built memory. I'm left with virtually no space after having transferred the 1000 series(CR,RC,SC) but that's ok. Otherwise i'd end up reading those instead of working on my GMAT :D

A lot of people who's study process I read, while vouching for the 1000series, also mention in the same breath that they never managed to finish them. I bet half the problem is that you need a computer while i'm sure there must be quite a few out there who've happily used their company printer to print out everything. To them all i can say is Lucky B#$%^&!!

The formatting is a little off on the e-book, almost half the screen is covered by something for the CR and the RC but i really dont care. I can read it and answer it so i'm focussing on getting them done. RC's going to be a bore but CR i'll be working my butt off!

Here's to some hard studying!

GMATSCRATCHPAD.com

One of the perks of being a Mod across two popular forms is that you get free stuff :D ok i know that sounds really El Cheapo but Hey! why dont you try dealing with dozen of mails a week asking for help with GMAT Prep, books, apps and the works!!!

Anyway sometime ago, the above mentioned company contacted me to know if I would be interested in testing their product. Dont we all love free stuff? So I said Yes and they promptly shipped me a free sample of their product. Its supposed to be a replica of the scratchpad that you get at the GMAT exam.

So the product arrived in due time and I must say i was very impressed. Prompt service, neat packaging, and a neat product. I spoke to a Ms Rohini and she promptly answered all my queries. Quite neat that no beating around the bush no marketing jazz just simple honest answers. Now i'm not gauranteeing you'll get the same treatment but i see no reason why you shouldn't. I'm a lefty so after reading a coupla reviews of how messy it gets for left handers i was a little worried. Its a relief to know its not so bad. The pad is really helpful and i've taken to doing all my work on it. I barely fill one page in a study session but me thinks that's partly because i do most of my math in my head. Pays to be a math faculty you know :D

Anyway, those of you interested might want to hop over to GmatSCRATCHPAD and get yourself one :)

Stagnant!

If you are even a cursory reader of this blog you would that I am the biggest procrastinator on this earth. Its been one of my major flaws for like forever :-(

Case in point--I've not yet gotten a print-out of the OG Test Grid for various reasons and today morning I had the time to actually sit and study and get started on the OG. But no Grid! Its times like these that I am really frustrated with my self. It was a simple two-minute job but I was combining it with something else that would probably take me another 30mins or so and hence the postponement.

Its not like i've even picked up the SCG which i was supposed to have picked up ages ago.

With work profile undergoing a drastic change things are only going to get a whole lot harder.

Swamped!!

Techie geek that I am, I know that there's huge amounts of information on the www if you know how to look properly. Like so many other things, that was just another factual statement i could toss out to my "non-geeky" family, friends, co-workers and whoever else would listen to me.

Till of course, it became time for me to start researching B-schools. OMG!! The amount of information out there is staggering! The number of sites, people posting away all kinds of data, how on earth am i ever supposed to make an sense of it all?

Was supposed to call up Kunal over the weekend but I didnt. I know he's out of station over the weekend so i'll have to wait till he comes back before i call. I should finish the call as early as possible. Working on essays is not going to be easy in the least. The only consoling point is that he's re-apping to Chi so i'll have some company there :)

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

Chuck it man!

I've decided to chuck the PR for the time being. Under the pretext of finishing PR "first" i was simply delaying starting work on the other books. So I've chucked it for the time being. When I feel like it i'll come back to it. Or atleast for the tests/exercises.

In the meanwhile (meaning yesterday night) i've started with beatthegmat's flashcards

Will also start with the Kaplan book that I have courtesy Ronnie. Yet to pick my colleges. Arranged with Kunal to call him late at night and discuss this. Conversations with him generally go on for about 30mins to 45mins(based on the One time that I called him :D and later confirmed by iday)

Thinking of a template that should help me decide schools. Unfortunately, I dont quite know what exactly I should be looking for in a school. I've got ideas floating in my head but should hopefully be able to put everything down on paper after my chat with Kunal.

Looking for people who can take a look at my essays. This is a toughie.

HELP!!!

Friday, July 20, 2007

Damn!!

Even though I've booked my date, that sense of urgency has still not bitten me yet. I'm still plodding through my PR and struggling to finish it. Beginning to get bored of it now. Hoping to get it over with by this weekend and move on to either the OG or Kaplan by Monday. Reading Montauk and Bodine in bits and pieces. Yet to finalise on colleges. Such a lot of work so little time.
Job's not interesting any more. Its becoming boring and its also sapping all my energies. I have to spend long hours at the center with nothing much to do or do some mind-numbingly dumb work and that's even more frustrating.

Pressure from home also to get things moving. To go to a B-school this year. To improve the financial situation. To stop thinking only about myself and to think about the family for a change.

Booked!!

After months of dilly-dallying I've finally booked a date.I am now going to be appearing for the GMAT on Sep18,2007 at 9AM. Its the will-only-go-in-the-morning jazz that's pushed my date so late. Tentatively I had settled on 13th but between Sunday and today even that's taken. No worries from my side though the family is definitely going to freak out :-(

I've also mailed hella to be included in the Applicants list. Let's see how that works out :)

Finally...

I started my prep! Atleast, I studied a part of the PR. Am almost done with the Math part. Should hopefully start with the Verbal part soon. Have delayed like crazy the process of picking up the Manhattan SCG and the CR/RC but now no more. Really have to pick it up soon. I've said July end is when i plan to give the GMAT but its almost June end and I'm only just starting. Dont think it'll be july end but any later than August and I'll be pushing it pretty darn close.

As part of the essay improvement, i realised that in order to write some good stuff

a.) You must write Good Serious Stuff
b.) You must write Everyday

Doesnt this make sense?? I know how many hours i've spent just trying to frame a simple business mail. I've resolved to now spend some time(say 15mins :D ) thinking ( or atleast trying to) and then updating one or both of my blogs. Not only will that force me to do something about either one, hopefully by the end i'll be writing decent stuff :-D And as a bonus, accomplished something too!!

Wish me luck :-)

Done!

BeatTheGMAT.com had a GMAT Scholarship competition going on for which may7th 11:59pm PST was the deadline. I submitted my app at 11:47pm

I know, I know. I was late! More late than I intended to be. Erratic power supply at home and office(on the last day)played only a small factor. The truth, I only seriously worked on the essays over the last 1 week. Even though I knew about them a little over a month ago.

Just like my GMAT prep. Let's hope I dont leave that to the last moment. That would be a disaster :-D

This and That

is exactly what I've been doing since my last test. Havent really gotten around to studying anything. I have, however, spoken to a couple people who told me not to worry too much abt the Verbal part. However Kunal certainly chastised me for getting Only 48 in the Q :-(

I have also read "Your MBA GamePlan"(finished it today) and found it fairly interesting. I wasn't completely happy with Chapter 6 which I understand is the crux of the matter i.e. actually creating the game plan. Maybe I'll go back and read it a coupla times to see if i've missed something.

What I did like though, was the charts that I created that measured activities/achievements and slotted them into 1 or more of 4 categories-- Leadership, Maturity, Innovation and Teamwork.
There's also the Situation/Action/Result that's got me thinking real heard.

There's also work on the BeatTheGMAT scholarship essay that needs to get done. I am having somebody review the 2nd essay( Why B-school 300words) tomorrow but I havent the faintest idea how to go about on the first essay(Why i deserve the scholarship--500words)

Any ideas??

Gmat Prep 660

So i take the GmatPrep Test 1 last Tuesday and score a 660 (Q-48 and V-33) Not sure whether to be happy or sad. I need to score a 750. Am i putting too much pressure on myself? I dont know. Is 750 achievable for someone like me? Perhaps. Q-48 is good news I got the 7th wrong, then 15,then 20 then a whole series at 20,21,22 and finally 25.

V was a disaster :-( I got the very 2nd Q wrong. And I am disappointed. I thought I'd do well on the V part. I guess I can only go up from here.
